SENATORS OPEN HOMESTAND WITH 4-3 WIN
Daniel drives in three
Harrisburg, PA – The Harrisburg Senators sent a season-high crowd of 5,663 home happy with a 4-3 victory over the Altoona Curve, Friday at Commerce Bank Park. Mike Daniel clubbed a two-run homer and laid down a squeeze bunt as RHP Jordan Zimmermann worked seven strong innings. The Senators came out of the gates hot. Ian Desmond slapped a single up the middle to start the bottom of the 1st. Daniel followed with a two-run shot to right field to put the Senators up, 2-0. Harrisburg extended the margin in the bottom of the 5th. Seth Bynum drilled a leadoff single. Two batters later, Desmond reached on catcher’s interference. LHP Kyle Bloom made a wild pickoff throw to first allowing Bynum to score and make it 3-0. A wild pitch moved Desmond to third base and Daniel laid down a squeeze bunt to score the run and balloon the lead to 4-0. The Curve cut into the deficit on a pair of home runs by former Senator Melvin Dorta. He blasted a two-run home run in the 6th to slice it to 4-2 and a solo bomb in the 8th to make it a 4-3 game. RHP Adam Carr made sure the score stayed that way, firing a scoreless 9th. Zimmermann picked up the win to move to 5-2 on the season. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four. Bloom took the loss to drop to 2-5. Carr notched his 8th save. The Senators improved to 58-46. Altoona dipped to 47-58. The Senators and Curve play a doubleheader on Saturday at Commerce Bank Park. First pitch in Game 1 is set for 5:05 PM. RHP Bobby Brownlie (8-0, 3.23 ERA) goes to the mound for Harrisburg in Game 1 against Altoona RHP Josh Hill (4-11, 4.94 ERA). In the nightcap, it’s Harrisburg RHP Beltran Perez (3-5, 6.38 ERA) against Altoona LHP Brian Holliday (1-1, 5.06 ERA).
