SENATORS RALLY LATE FOR 5-4 WIN
Four run rally in eighth snaps five-game road losing streak
In front of over 8,000 in Reading, the Senators scored four times in the eighth inning to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 win. The rally made a winner out of Chris Schroder, even though he allowed two runs in his one inning of work. The Senators are now 15-8 on the season while Reading falls to 8-12. Oscar Alvarez started for the Senators and had another strong outing. Alvarez went six innings allowing two runs, just one earned, in keeping the Senators in the game. Roy Corcoran pitched two innings in relief to pick up his eighth save of the year. The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the first when Melvin Dorta doubled to start the game, was sacrificed to third, then scored on a ground out by Kory Casto. The Phillies tied the game in the fourth, then took the lead in the fifth on a home run by Tim Moss. Moss then tripled in two runs in the seventh giving the Phillies a 4-1 lead. The Senators used a couple of infield singles, a walk, and a couple of timely hits to score four times in the eighth inning to take the lead. Melvin Dorta had three hits, two of them doubles, and Alex Escobar and Salomon Manriquez both had two hits for the Senators. The Sens pounded out twelve hits in the win. The Senators also played strong defense, turning two more double plays, catching a runner stealing, and throwing out a runner at second base. The rubber game of the series is on Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. LHP David Maust will be going for the Senators opposed by Scott Mathieson for the Phillies. The game can be heard on 1460 The Ticket starting at 12:45pm. Manager John Stearns will be the pre-game show guest, as he is every Sunday.
